Gorman Bechard - 2011 - 123m) Like many who were weaned on punk music\, director Bechard latched onto this brash young Minneapolis band with fervor. \;Told through the eyes of fans\, friends\, and contemporaries\, the film breaks from the traditional music documentary format of music and performances. &ldquo\;Not wanting to make a VH1/where-are-they-now style documentary\, I decided to present the band in a more iconic way\,&rdquo\; the director explains. Dubbed &ldquo\;the last best band&rdquo\; by Spin Magazine\, Replacements'\; live shows could be miraculous or downright disasters. As critic&rsquo\;s darlings\, their albums were wrought with angry guitars and passionate well-written lyrics that hinted at potential commercial success. Normally\, Caterwaul does the Low Life DJ gig at Blackbird on 4th Thursdays\, but there was a scheduling snafu so he'\;s free to pursue other obsessions! Such as showing obscuro cult flicks.

Shelf Life (dir. Paul Bartel\, 1993\, 81m) - The last film made by the director of Death Race 2000\, Eating Raoul\, &\; Private Parts never saw a proper release\, let alone a reissue of any sort\, and is extremely hard to find. The premise is simple\, but leads to bizarre scenarios- after JFK is shot\, all-American paranoid nuclear family holes up in their bomb shelter &ldquo\;until the Commies\, or the Martians\, or whoever they are\, GO AWAY.&rdquo\; The real story then begins &ldquo\;30 YEARS LATER&rdquo\; with the kids\, now physically grown but mentally stunted\, living out their days in the shelter. They develop elaborate rituals &\; psychodrama based on confused cultural memories &\; sibling rivalry. Their hermetic existence is occasionally injected with new material from snippets of TV that leak through the concrete\, only to take on a life of its own in their fantasy world. Shelf Life was originally a stage play for 3 people on a single set\, and is faithfully reconstructed here with the original thespians. $\\"\\"$
